The Corrupt City: Prophet Lut's (PBUH) Story
(Prophet Lut Biography)

Story of Prophet Lut in Islam

Prophet Lut ("Prophet Lot") was born and reared by Prophet Ibrahim, may peace be upon him. Even when everyone mocked him, Prophet Lut loved, respected, and believed in Ibrahim's message. Ibrahim and Lut frequently traveled long distances, across land and water, to welcome and promote Islam.

During their journey to Palestine, Ibrahim and Lut received Allah's holy decree that Lut had been chosen as a Prophet and Messenger for the people of Sodom. Allah commanded the new Prophet to go to Sodom, which is located on the border of Jordan and Palestine, and summon the transgressors back to Allah's worship. (Prophet Lut in the Quran)

Sodom was a bustling commercial center frequented by travelers, merchants, and tradesmen. However, Sodom was also the most corrupt city at the time, with the highest level of criminal activity. Travellers passing through Sodom were frequently accosted, robbed of their valuables, and occasionally ruthlessly murdered. However, the most infamous act of evil done by this corrupt nation was homosexuality.

The people of Lut introduced homosexuality into the world; no one had ever experienced or practiced homosexuality before Sodom. This heinous behavior was the standard in this country, and the entire populace participated in it. They were quite proud of their behavior, spoke openly about it, and indulged in these immoral actions openly.

This heinous behavior was the standard in this country, and the entire populace participated in it. They were quite proud of their behavior, spoke openly about it, and indulged in these immoral actions openly.

Prophet Lut, pleased with the Prophethood and his new purpose, quickly settled in Sodom and began to plan ways to attract his people into the fold of Islam. He was fully aware that his country was the most corrupt at the time, yet he had steadfast faith and hoped and prayed that they would soon recognize the folly of their ways and follow Allah's path.

Soon after, Prophet Lut contacted the city's men and reminded them of their Lord, saying, "Will you not fear Allah and obey Him?"

Verily! I am a reliable Messenger for you. So fear Allah, fulfill your obligations to Him, and obey me." The men of the city, perplexed, began arguing amongst themselves: "This man has entered our city and is telling us to stop what we are doing?" Clearly, he is benefiting from this!" "No reward do I ask of you for it," Prophet Lut responded. My sole reward comes from the Lord of the Worlds."

Prophet Lut then addressed the issue of homosexuality, informing them that it was an immoral activity. "Do you approach males from other worlds and abandon those whom your Lord has created for you as wives?" he said. No, you are a transgressive people!"

Prophet Lut then reminded his followers that he would never accept to participate in such a conduct and warned them of Allah's harsh wrath. He stated: "I am indeed, of those who disapprove with severe anger and fury your action (of sodomy)." After hearing Lut's statement, the men and women of Sodom grew enraged and began to plot how to throw Lut out of their city. They then admonished Prophet Lut, saying, "If you do not cease, O Lut! You will undoubtedly be among those expelled!"

Prophet Lut grew concerned. After years of encouraging people to Islam, not a single person in Sodom had accepted Islam. The sole Muslim household in Sodom was Lut's, and not all of its members were Muslims—Lut and his daughters were devout Muslims, but his wife remained a non-believer. As a result, Prophet Lut raised his hands to the sky and pleaded, "My Lord, help me fight the corrupting people." Please, Lord, protect me and my family from what they are doing."

Meanwhile, Allah sent three angels dressed as men, including Angel Jibreel, to Prophet Ibrahim's house as guests. Ibrahim, who did not recognize the angels, prepared a lavish feast for his visitors. His visitors, however, refused the food that were presented to them.Fearful, Prophet Ibrahim inquired, "Who are you?" be afraid!" said the angels.

Ibrahim foresaw Allah's wrath for the inhabitants of Sodom. terrified for his nephew, Lut, and told the angels, "Indeed, within it is Lut." aware of who is within it," the Angels responded. be preserved.  (Sodom and Gomorrah)

The angels then disguised themselves as gorgeous young men and marched to Sodom. The Lut's daughter a believer, saw the attractive men enter the city and went to her father, informing him of the three men. Prophet Lut approached the men and greeted them in Sodom.

He was fully aware of the doom that awaited the young men at the hands of the men of Sodom, and he wanted to persuade them to flee the city for their own safety. But Prophet Lut was too ashamed to order the guests to leave, so he led them to his house while making sure none of the three gorgeous men saw them.

Lut's wife, a non-believer, witnessed the men as they entered her home with her husband, Lut.  She rushed to the city's men and informed them that Lut had three handsome young guys in his house. The men thrilled at the news and gradually gathered outside Lut's house, beating on his door. "Do not disgrace me in front of my guests," Lut said. Is there not a man of sense among you?" The men were agitated and yelled back, "Have we not forbidden you from [hosting] people?"

Sodom's entire population had assembled at Lut's doorstep. They became very impatient and began busting down his door. Lut, furious, called out to his people:"These [the girls of the nation] are my daughters [to marry lawfully] if you must act so." The guys replied: "You have already known that we have no interest in your daughters; and indeed, you know what we want."

Prophet Lut became powerless in the face of corrupt people. "If only I had against you some power or could take refuge in a strong power" , thought he. The three men then spoke forward, saying, "O Lut, we are indeed angels of your Lord; [therefore] they will never reach you."

Angel Jibreel then stepped out of Lut's house and struck the guys, blinding them all. The men, shocked and outraged, yelled, "What is this magic that just hit us? What was the source of this? O Lut! You are the one responsible for this. You'll see what we have in store for you tomorrow." The blind men went back to their dwellings, preparing to destroy Lut the next day.

"Set out with your family during a portion of the night, and let none of you look back except your wife," Allah said to Lut. She will indeed be struck by what hits them. Their appointment is scheduled for the morning. Isn't the morning approaching?" Prophet Lut and his daughters escaped Sodom throughout the night, as directed.

As the morning dawned, a loud, piercing cry echoed throughout the city, shaking the residents with anguish and fear. Jibreel then grasped the nation from the edge of his wing, lifted it high into the air, twisted it, and crashed it to the earth. Allah then commanded the sky to rain down stones of hard clay, each inscribed with the name of the transgressor for whom it was intended, so ending the vain lives of Sodom's inhabitants. (Lessons from Prophet Lut's Story)

Prophet Lut returned to his uncle, Prophet Ibrahim, after leaving Sodom with his daughters. Lut, together with Ibrahim, continued to spread Allah's message until his death.

The Dead Sea now sits on the site of the corrupt city of Sodom, serving as a strong reminder of Allah's anger against the people of Prophet Lut. "Surely!" says Allah the Exalted in the Holy Quran. There are signs for those who see in this. And, indeed! They (the cities) are located directly on the highway (from Mecca to Syria, i.e. where the Dead Sea is now). Surely! There is a sign for the believers there."

MENTIONS THE HEBREW BIBLE AND THE NEW TESTAMENT
In Deuteronomy 29:22-23 of the Hebrew Bible, Moses mentions the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah:

"Your descendants and foreigners who come from distant lands will see the calamities that have fallen on the land and the diseases that the Lord has afflicted it." The entire area will be a blazing waste of salt and sulfur, with nothing planted, sprouting, or growing on it. It will be similar to the devastation of Sodom and Gomorrah, Admah and Zeboyim, which the Lord destroyed in rage."

In Luke 17:28-30 of the New Testament, Jesus compares his second coming to the punishment of Sodom and Gomorrah:

Similarly to Lot's days—they ate, drank, bought, sold, planted, and built—on the day Lot went away from Sodom, fire and sulphur fell from heaven and killed them all—so will it be on the day the Son of Man is revealed.

QURAN VERSES REFERRING TO THE STORY OF PROPHET LUT
The Qur'an has 17 ayats that mention the Prophet Lut (pbuh).

Surah Araf (7:80) Surah Anam (6:86)

And [We had sent] Lot, who said to his people, "Do you commit such immorality as no one from among the worlds has before you?" In fact, you approach guys with desire rather than women. Rather, you are a rebellious people." But his people's response was simply, "Evict them from your city!" They are, indeed, males who keep themselves pure." (Ayat 80-82)

Hud Surah (11:70, 74, 77, 89)

But when he observed their hands not reaching for it, he became suspicious of them and sensed their fear. "Do not be alarmed," they said. We've been assigned to the inhabitants of Lot." (Ayat 70)

And when the terror had passed and the joyful news had reached Abraham, he began to fight with Us over the people of Lot. (Ayat 74)

And when Our messengers [the angels] arrived at Lot, he was tormented for them and felt tremendous difficulty for them, saying, "This is a trying day." (Ayat 77)

And, O my people, do not allow [your] disagreement with me cause you to be struck by something like to what struck the people of Noah, Hud, or Salih. And the inhabitants of Lot are not far distant from you. (Ayat 89)

Hijr Surah (15:59)

"Then what is your business [here], O messengers?" [Abraham] said. They said, "Indeed, we have been sent to a people of criminals, Except the family of Lot; indeed, we will save them all Except his wife." Allah has ordained that she is among those who remain. (Ayat 57-60)

Anbiya Surah (21:71, 74)

And We gave Lot judgment and knowledge, and We delivered him from the city that was performing evil deeds. They were, indeed, a defiantly disobedient people. (Ayat 74)

Surah Ankabut (29:28, 32) Surah Hajj (22:43)

And [mention] Lot when he remarked to his people, "Indeed, you commit such immorality as no one from among the worlds has preceded you with." Indeed, you approach men, clog the way, and perpetrate [every] wrong in your meetings." And his people's response was nay, but they said,"Bring us the punishment of Allah, if you should be of the truthful." He prayed, "My Lord, support me against the corrupting people." And when Our messengers brought the good news to Abraham, they declared, "Indeed, we will destroy the people of Lot's city." Indeed, its people have committed wrongdoing." "Indeed, within it is Lot," [Abraham] answered. "We are more aware of who is within it," they stated. Except for his wife, we will undoubtedly save him and his family. She will be among those who remain." (Ayat 28-32)
Saffat Surah (37:153)
Sad Surah (38:13)
Qaf Surah (50:13)
(54:33) Surah Qamar

Lot's people ignored the warning. Indeed, We poured a torrent of stones upon them, except for the family of Lot, whom We saved before dawn as a favor from us. We reward those who are thankful in this way. And he had already informed them of Our impending attack, but they had denied the warning. And they wanted his guests, but We blinded their eyes, saying, "Taste My punishment and warning." And by daybreak, they had received an everlasting sentence. (Ayat 33-38)

Tahrim (66:10) is the winner.

Allah gives two examples of people who disbelieved: Noah's wife and Lot's wife. They were under the command of two of Our righteous servants but deceived them, so those prophets brought them no benefit from Allah, and it was stated, "Enter the Fire with those who enter." (Ayat 10)
